Der Talkessel, in dem Kyoto liegt, sammelt das Wasser der umliegenden Hügel. Für wirtschaftliche wie kulturelle Nutzungen sind schon früh Kanäle angelegt worden. Diese haben in der Zeit der Industrialisierung und wegen der latenten Gefahr vor Überschwemmungen grosse Teile ihrer Funktion eingebüsst. Doch in Zeiten von grossen klimatischen Herausforderungen bekommen natürliche wie künstliche Gewässer vermehrt Aufmerksamkeit in Stadträumen. Mit diesem neuen Hintergrund ist es notwendig, über die zukünftigen Funktionen des Wassers in urbanen Gebieten nachzudenken.\nÜber verschiedene thematische Ansätze wird ein eigenes Verständnis der Rolle des Wassers in der Stadt erarbeitet. Sowohl auf landschaftlicher, klimatischer und sozialer Ebene wird durch Kartierungen, Collagen und Analyseplänen die Stadt im Bezug auf das Wasser untersucht. Der Entwurfsprozess wird so aus verschiedenen Blickwinkeln fortlaufend überprüft und ergänzt, um auf diese Weise ein möglichst vielschichtiges Verständnis der vorgefundenen Situation auf unterschiedlichen Massstäben zu gewinnen. Die Intention dabei ist, einen zukünftigen Umgang mit den Gewässern zu erarbeiten, der auf vielen Schichten anknüpft und dadurch besser auf die Gegebenheiten vor Ort eingehen kann.\nDas untersuchte Gebiet ist ein Abschnitt des Nishitakase-Flusses. Die Analyse des Ortes hat gezeigt, dass Freiflächen zumeist von Parkplätzen belegt sind und eine Raumressource bilden, die ein hohes Potential zur Umnutzung zeigen. Die Wohnung im Dachgeschoss erforderte grössere Änderungen in der Struktur. Das Dach wurde ausgedämmt und die Decke entfernt, um das volle Potential der Dachwohnung auszuschöpfen. Dabei ist die alte Firstpfette aufgearbeitet und sichtbar gemacht worden. Die grossflächige, dreifachlasierte Holztäferung harmoniert mit dem rustikalen Eichenparkett. Die Wohnräume sind durch strukturelle Anpassungen gegen den eigenen Garten und den Ausblick zum Dorf und dem Alpstein ausgerichtet. Ein funktionsoffener Raum nahe der Strasse informiert die Öffentlichkeit mit Ausstellungen und Vorträgen über Umweltthemen. Der Raum erweitert den Ausstellungsraum durch den offenen Dachstuhl in der Vertikalen und wird durch eine Stahlkonstruktion erschlossen. Weiter im Areal befindet sich das Forschungszentrum. Die Abschnitte passen sich den Nutzungen an und prägen das Gebäude. Die Holzstruktur ist eine zeitgenössische Übersetzung der vernikularen Architektur der traditionellen Bauernhäuser „Minka“. Je nach Standort variiert der maximale Überflutungsgrad und damit die Höhe der Pfähle und die Wahrnehmung der Gefahr. Beide Orte, die Shetlands und das Appenzellerland, haben einen starken Bezug zu der Landschaft.\nDie Grundlage der vorliegenden Arbeit bilded eine Bilderreihe von sechs Bildern vom Alpsteingebirge, die Momente der Auflösung zeigen. Berghänge, die in den Nebel eintauchen. Der Mond, der sich im Spiegelglatten See spiegelt. Der Sessellift im Herbstnebel. Dieses Gefühl der Zwischenräumen definiert für mich auch das Gefühl des Ländlichen. Ziel des Kollektivs ist es, den Diskurs um Kunst und Kultur von der Stadt aufs Land zu tragen. Bei der ersten Ausstellung bilden die Künstler und Gastkünstler durch Interventionen ein Phantastisches Zimmer, welches zum Entdecken und Diskutieren anregen soll.\nWir, das heisst mein Gast Lars Rumpel und Ich, haben uns dem Thema Phantastik über die alte Bausubstanz genähert. Das durch den traditionellen Strickbau bedingte Kammernsystem des Grundrisses lässt Weite, offene und fliessende Räume nur bedingt zu. Wir wollten diese Grenzen in einem gehaltvollen Rahmen sprengen. Wir betrachten ein solches Bauernhaus nicht nur Materiell, sondern auch immateriell als eine Ansammlung von handwerklichen Fertigkeiten. Mit dem Ziel, diesen Fertigkeiten eine neue hinzuzufügen, polierten wir in Handarbeit spiegelnde Flächen aus Aluminium, welche in die Formate der Holztäfelung eingelassen wurden, um so den Dialog mit dem Haus zu stärken. Zudem passen sich die Metallplatten durch ihre Imperfektion dem immer etwas windschiefen Haus an. Das neue Material erweitert nicht nur die Palette von verschiedenen Handwerkskünsten des Hauses, sondern auch das Raumgefühl.","The new collective‘s first exhibition will take place in an old Appenzell farmhouse.
